Ezra Pound - O fată

Arborele a pătruns în mâinile mele,
Seva a urcat spre braţele mele,
Arborele a crescut în pieptul meu -
În jos,
Ramurile cresc din mine,ca nişte braţe.

Arbore eşti,
Muşchi eşti,
Eşti precum toporaşii în adierea vântului.
Un copil - atât de falnic - tu eşti,
Şi toate astea-s o nebunie-n ochii lumii.

A Girl

The tree has entered my hands,
The sap has ascended my arms,
The tree has grown in my breast-
Downward,
The branches grow out of me, like arms.

Tree you are,
Moss you are,
You are violets with wind above them.
A child - so high - you are,
And all this is folly to the world.

Ezra Pound - Grădina

În ţinută festivă
--Samain

Ar dori să-i vorbească cineva,
Însă, aproape că-i e teamă că eu
Voi săvârşi acesta necuviinţă.

The Garden

En robe de parade.
--Samain

LIKE a skein of loose silk blown against a wall
She walks by the railing of a path in Kensington Gardens,
And she is dying piece-meal
of a sort of emotional anemia.

And round about there is a rabble
Of the filthy, sturdy, unkillable infants of the very poor
They shall inherit the earth.

In her is the end of breeding.
Her boredom is exquisite and excessive.
She would like some one to speak to her,
And is almost afraid that I
will commit that indiscretion.

Ezra Pound - Epilog

Epilogue

O CHANSONS foregoing
You were a seven days' wonder.
When you came out in the magazines
You created considerable stir in Chicago,
And now you are stale and worn out,
You're a very depleted fashion,
A hoop-skirt, a calash,
An homely, transient antiquity.
Only emotion remains.
Your emotions?
Are those of a maitre-de-cafe.

Ezra Pound - Într-o staţie de metrou

Ivirea acestor chipuri în mulţime;
Petale pe o creangă umedă şi neagră.

In a Station of the Metro

THE apparition of these faces in the crowd;
Petals on a wet, black bough.

Ezra Pound - Un pact

Fac un pact cu tine,Walt Whitman--
Te-am dispreţuit îndeajuns.
Mă-ndrept către tine asemeni unui tânăr
Care a avut un tată îndărătnic;
Sunt destul de mare acum să-mi fac prieteni.
Tu ai cioplit un nou lemn,
Acum e vremea unei sculpturi.
Avem o sevă şi o rădăcină--
Să se facă, astfel, pactul dintre noi.

A Pact

I MAKE a pact with you, Walt Whitman--
I have detested you long enough.
I come to you as a grown child
Who has had a pig-headed father;
I am old enough now to make friends.
It was you that broke the new wood,
Now is a time for carving.
We have one sap and one root--
Let there be commerce between us.
